  • Search by a part name. Example: water pump.
  • Be less specific. Example: brake instead of ceramic brake.
  • Remove information such as make, year or model.
  • Can't find the part you are looking for? Contact us and we'll find it for you!

Your car, SUV, van, or pickup has spark plugs in place for a reason. They help to ignite the air-and-fuel mixture inside your engine's combustion chamber, which in turn powers your every drive. How they do that is simple.

First, you either press the "Start" button or turn the key in the ignition cylinder. That leads the battery, starter motor, solenoid, and ignition coil to team up to produce an electric charge. The spark plugs capture that charge in their leads, using it to kindle the air-and-fuel mix. Once that happens, the pistons pump, the crankshaft rotates, and you're off!

If your vehicle is powered by a diesel engine, though, you use glow plugs instead. These have a heating element in their tips that kindles the mist inside the engine cylinders.

How Do You Recognize Faulty Spark Plugs?

Spark plugs do go bad eventually, however. They can corrode with age, or the gaps can widen too far to produce an effective sparking. When that happens, engine performance suffers. Signs of trouble include:

  • Rough engine idle
  • Engine misfires
  • Difficulty starting your vehicle
  • Your "Check Engine" dash light comes on -- though this requires more research, as it's a general sign of some form of trouble
  • Sav up to 35% on Genuine OEM Spark Plugs

Even if you're not seeing signs that cause concern, you'll want to check your owner's manual for your recommended maintenance schedule. Keeping to that ensures consistent performance, which is better for your engine in the long run. Your manufacturer makes the only spark plugs that are guaranteed to be compatible with your model and its engine, so they're always your best bet. Search our online parts catalogue by make, model, and model year to find yours -- in stock and priced well below the retail others demand. Buy today and we'll get your order shipped right out!
